GRIJALBO

Juan Grijalbo, a Spanish exile who later became a Mexican citizen, started publishing books in Mexico in 1939. He was involved in publishing and distribution throughout Latin America until he founded Editorial Grijalbo in Barcelona in 1962. By 1980, the house had emerged as the market leader in Mexico with affiliate offices in Argentina, Chile and Colombia. In 1989, Grijalbo became part of Italy’s Mondadori group, and the Grijalbo Mondadori publishing group was born, incorporating all of the Grijalbo businesses in Spain and the Americas.

 

In 2001, it became part of the Random House Mondadori joint venture. Grijalbo publishes and distributes its titles in all the Random House Mondadori territories.

 

Grijalbo’s fiction list includes top-ranking authors such as Ken Follett and Barbara Wood. In historical fiction, the list features genre cultivators, from Valerio Massimo Manfredi to new talents like Ildefonso Falcones with his best seller, La catedral del mar (The Cathedral of the Sea), to top international writers of historical thrillers.
